Angie's Petite Spa
BY SOPHIE PARIENTI
On Washington Blvd., in the heart of Marina del Rey, there is a charming house containing a little gem of indulgence known as Angie's Petite Spa. This is not your typical Beverly Hills-style glamour spa. Great attention has not been paid to lavish decor or cutting edge style. Yet this understated little establishment has a nice welcoming feeling that mirrors the personality of Angie, the Petite Spa's proprietor herself. Genuinely passionate about skin care, Angie is delighted to chat and answer multitudes of epidermal questions. Two rooms comprise the essential space in which Angie's various treatments (ranging from semi-medical to all natural and organic) are performed. After patiently listening to the myriad options for treating skin and other needs, from chemical peels to dermabrasion... I opted for the completely natural Green Peel.
In order to receive this treatment, I had to go four days without showering or washing my hair or face, and apply a daily mix of heavy moisturizer foundation cream onto my "supposed-to-peel-quite-

heavily" facial skin. Yak! What we will do for that youthful glow is far beyond understanding! So there I was, warning everyone around me that I was about to look like a sunburned toad who can't find her way back to the pond.
Angie began the treatment with a deep cleansing facial to prepare the skin. Her technique was confident and gentle, which allowed me to relax. The peel felt like an intense scrub- gentle at first and then a little rougher as she exfoliated my facial skin. The mixture of natural herbs had a pleasant aroma and the overall procedure was painless. I left feeling clean and anxious to see what would be staring back at me in the mirror the following day.
Surprisingly, I didn't have any significant change the next morning besides a slight itching, which was remedied when I applied the creamy moisturizer. On the second day, I began to see some "old skin" crackling. Putting on the thick cream started feeling like I was adding a new coat of paint to an old rusty peeling-off door. By day four, I could see that beneath the thin layer of crackled skin, a new, beautifully smooth layer of skin was waiting to emerge, giving me the courage to add one more coat of cream! By this point, everyone was anxious to see "the final result" and I began to understand what the monkeys must experience behind the glass at the zoo! By the last few hours of day four, I knew the time was approaching when I could finally WASH my face. I returned to Angie for the follow up facial that would eliminate the remaining skin, and unveil the new me.
A glance in the mirror after she finished reassured me that I was still me, just me with a clear and glowing complexion that felt silky and smooth. I left relieved with knowledge that there are still some natural treatments out there for those of us who don't mind getting a little "help" as long as it is chemical-free!
